I asked you what’s stopping you from making wigs on a sewing machine. You told me the needle keeps breaking when your making wigs. There could be several reasons why the needle keeps breaking. I’ve listed 5 reasons below that can help you identify why your needle keeps breaking while you’re creating your wigs.
Your needle is too small.
Are you using the correct needle type for your wig making? If you are using the wrong needle size when creating your wig, chances are your needle might break. Sewing machine needles vary according to their use and also by thickness. When selecting your needle, you must choose the right size and type that is used for creating custom wigs on your sewing machine. There are various needle sizes used while making clothes on a sewing machine, however, when making wigs on a sewing machine, you must use the Jeans / Denim needle as it is more sturdy for using on the wig making cap. Needle is bent.
Check if your needle is still straight. Some bent needles are hardly noticeable so you need to check it thoroughly. It is advisable to change your needle after regularly checking the sharpness and bluntness of it. I recommend swapping out your needle after 3 wigs. If your needle is bent, it will come down in the bobbin area incorrectly and will cause the needle to break.
Needle not all the way inserted.
The other reason why your needle keeps breaking while you’re making a wig is maybe because you inserted the needle wrong. When inserting the needle in your sewing machine, make sure that the needle is correctly inserted with the flat side facing the back and pushed up into the machine as far as possible.
Needle screw not tight enough.
If your needle keeps breaking by falling out on your sewing machine. The reason is because the needle is loose. If you are using your fingers to tighten the screw you will probably not be able to get it tight enough right. The proper way is to use a screw driver to tighten the screw. You will find that your sewing machine came with some supplies which includes a mini screwdriver.
Needle hits bobbin case.
After you finish cleaning your sewing machine, you may fail to put back the bobbin case into its original alignment, causing the needle to nip the case as it comes down. If the needle hits the bobbin case, it may break the tip of the needle. This usually happens if the bobbin case is not placed correctly. As soon as you notice this happening, ensure that you change the needle IMMEDIATELY to avoid
Conclusion
There are many other reasons but these are the common ones. Hope these reasons help you find a way to solve the issue of breaking needles when creating your wig.
